Smoke Art

Splash!

Not water but smoke.  Photographer Mehmet Ozgur combines sometimes thousands of images of smoke to produce his smoke art pictures.  Wonderful idea, beautifully done … and requiring a lot of patience I should think.  You can view a gallery of his work here.

(I tried photographing smoke.  Once).

Gathering momentum

I feel us gathering momentum as a little design team and I’ve been busy on more art and photography this morning, specifically today putting up a new piece by my older daughter (below).  I know that lots of you out there have young children so I just thought I’d remind you that there is some original artwork to see over at my Art and Design site, some perfect for children.

The response to my competition, both here and by email has so far has been good but we’re not exactly up at lottery standards (not that I ever thought we would be)!  All I can say is, the odds of winning are therefore pretty good and I wanted to thank those who have already entered for your support and enthusiam.  For that reason alone, you’re all winners to me.

Baby seals

Sorry this note is so perfunctory – having whiled away the morning ‘fiddling’ on arty stuff, I’ve just realised that we have absolutely nada, zippo, zilch to eat in the house so getting myself to the shop PDQ could be useful for, ooh, things like lunch, and dinner.   🙂

Shameless self promotion

Because I just want you to love me, love my photos.  😉

Well and because there is some relevance to this one today.  I’m just heading out to the garden centre to buy Amaryllis bulbs to flower in my own and my daughters’ houses over the dull months of  Winter.  Over the last couple of days I find I’ve been thinking of Spring planting, Spring bulbs and working on photos very much with a Spring theme.   I’m spotting a theme here. (If I don’t even think about Winter, maybe it will just go away).  By the way, if you’re looking for advice on planting Spring bulbs to flower over the Christmas and New Year season, I recently wrote a little piece over at my other WordPress site: Voix Douce.

Afore I go….please don’t forget my photo/art comp… you’ve got to be in it to win it!

'In a word' and Saturday Snapshots

It’s a ‘twofer’ day around here today (two entries for the price of one) – an ‘In a word’ meme from Joanna and Saturday Snapshots from Amanda.

First off…

I discovered from taking part in the last meme, passed to me by Joanna at The Fifty Factor, that I really like talking about myself!  Now there’s a surprise!  Joanna’s come up trumps again, this time with an award/ meme passed on from Holly Dietor of Your Mother Knows But Won’t Tell You.  (‘HDoYMKBWTY’ makes me think that I should really come up with a very much better name for this blog that started as ‘an experiment’ about a year ago now).

This meme requires one word answers to the following list of questions.  So without further ado…

1. Where is your cell phone? Handbag
2. Your hair?
Wild
3. Your mother?
Heaven
4. Your father?
Heaven
5. Your favorite food?
Mash
6. Your dream last night? Surfing

7.Your favorite drink?
Tea
8. Your dream/goal? Dream:
Lottery – Goal: Happiness
9. What room are you in?
Study
10. Your hobby?
Photography
11. Your fear?
Illness
12. Where do you want to be in 6 years?
Healthy
13. Where were you last night? Home

14. Something that you aren’t?
Confident
15. Muffins? Scones

16. Wish list item?
Happiness
17. Where did you grow up?
Here

18. Last thing you did? Showered
19. What are you wearing? Clothes

20. Your TV?
Off
21. Your pet?
Cat(s)
22. Friends?
Few
23. Your life?
Changing

24. Your mood? Relaxed
25. Missing someone?

32. Your best friend?
Husband
33. One place that I go to over and over? Supermarket!

34. One person who emails me regularly?
Daughter
35. Favorite place to eat?
Home

It was quite telling to think of some of those, so thanks for that Joanna.  Let me know if you’d like the flame passed to you.  I’d love to see your one word answers.

Now for Saturday Snapshots.  It’s the fourth photo from my fourth folder, with an explanation to follow:

Smart

It’s my car – a little Smart cabriolet.  I lost my confidence with driving post stroke so for me the smaller the car, the better.  I always wanted a soft top so when it came time to change my car and this little Smart cabriolet was on the forecourt, available to drive away (very unusual here), it just seemed made for me.  I love the design of this car – it reminds me of a baby’s bootee!

The location probably looks very arty.  It was photographed outside an old holiday camp on the island’s stunningly beautiful north coast.  The camp shut down many years ago and is now crumbling and vandalised while developers, conservationists and our parliament continually argue about what should be done with it.  (We don’t believe in making hasty decisions here).

…………………………………………..

And finally (I love the ability, in my blog, to start not only a sentence with the word ‘and’ but also a whole paragraph)

And finally…please don’t forget!!!

Art Comp

For details of how to enter, for the chance to win framed artwork plus a designer tee shirt, please visit my last blog entry or just click here.  Bonne chance, mes amis.  🙂

The Big Photo Competition

Here it is peeps – this is the big photo competition that I’ve mentioned before!  For the last month I’ve been busy up-loading just some of my photos to two internet sites.  For various reasons it’s Zenfolio that won the day for preference so that’s where I invite you to see some of my work.  As no one site offers all that I’d like, somewhere down the line, in the not too distant future, I may well open an Etsy store, especially as I hope to have other items for sale, such as some very pretty silver jewellery.

Here’s the deal… the ! main prize ! (fanfare please) will be your choice of either a matted or laminated print of one of my photos.  Which one is still to be decided and in fact I’m happy to take your suggestion of your favourite.  (For ‘technical’ reasons too dull to explain, not all can be blown up to the size I’d like by the printers I’ll be using).  Below is an example of a laminated print:

And a matted print….

Plus! (yes, there’s more!).. a tee shirt [short or long sleeved] featuring one of our designs….

3895447-4-buxom, white

3793036-3-so

🙂  It’s a prize that in value equates to in excess of $75,so that’s got to be worth the effort of 5 minutes or so looking through my site…hasn’t it?

Three runners up will also receive a straight print of their favourite photo, measuring approx. 7″ x 9″ (not every photo is of the dimensions to exactly  fit into this size).

Here’s how to enter:

Head on over to my site at JLM PhotoDesign and have a look through my work, then come back here and briefly tell me which piece of work is your favourite (quoting the photo’s title)  and why.  You can enter as many times as you wish.  For non-blogging friends, entries are also being collected via email  –  celcelore [at] hotmail [dot] co [dot]uk.

The closing date for entries is 10 days from now, i.e midnight (GMT) on Sunday 18th October.

I will decide the winners using my best judgement and as they say in competition land, the judges decision is final!

…………………………..

By the way, if you like what you see, it may be worth checking back from time to time anyway because I still have lots and lots of photos to add.  If you also want to sign the guest book or leave comments over at JLM PhotoDesign that would be cool too – we’re new to this so any encouragement is most welcome!

I’d really appreciate it if you could pass the word along and let others know that this competition is running.. my regular friends here will know that I’m concerned this will all be a bit of a damp squib. :-S

…………………………..

Some of my work can also be seen at Red Bubble and somewhere on the horizon is a brand spanking new Zazzle shop (watch this space)!

This and That

BirdsI’m definitely a morning person.  Certainly during the Summer I’m up with the birds (or before), woken by the almost imperceptible change in light in the bedroom that happens close to dawn.  I love being up so early because the world is absolutely silent, as though it all belongs just to me.  I’m also in a way more creative frame of mind this early in the day and both writing and anything artistic seems to flow more easily.  Conversely, mi amore has always been a night owl.  I’ve just heard him head to the bathroom (at 6.20 in the ayem) … and then head back to bed.  This makes me smile because his alarm goes off at 6.40 on work days, so, to me, there is no point in going back to bed.  Why not stick to the weekly routine and make the most of his day off?  And therein lies the difference between a morning and an evening person!

———————–

The ‘project’ I’ve been working on?  (Finally getting around to selling some of the artistic output of this family).  It’s all coming together nicely.  I’ve concentrated on putting together two websites to sell our wares because both offer slightly different products.  There will be prints of photos, prints of original artwork and tee shirts that are suitable for both adults and children.  Other products will come on-line as and when available.   There would have been a flashy third site (because you can never have too much web presence) but its ‘so-easy-to-use-that-it-doesn’t-need-instructions’ programming was so well beyond my poor brain that  I’ve given up for the time being.  I haven’t promoted our wares at all at either site and yet yesterday we made our first sale and in our first few days had featured on the site’s ‘front page’.  This is all so exciting and I hope to ‘launch’ both sites maybe later this week.  I’m being a bit coy about all this simply because I wanted to get a decent amount of our work on both sites before introducing them to my friends here.

———————-

LurkingKind of apropos of the above… what is it with people who lurk on websites?  I know from my ‘stats’ how many visitors pass by these shores, yet my ‘comments’ section remains sparsely ‘populated’.  (I hate modern business speak so I don’t quite know why I used that word in that context).  I said I may do some kind of give away / competition to mark the start of our art venture but I’m worried that so few people will participate that it will be a bit of a damp squib and an utter failure.  I don’t know about you, but I love it when people leave comments.  I’m a shy person so you’d think maybe that I’d be a bit reticent about speaking up, even on the web.  The reality is that I find the anonymity of the web makes it far easier for me to speak.  The internet, and particularly blogs, are surely all about interaction with one another and yet my experience at all the sites I’ve ever run is that the vast majority silently surf,  barely leaving a footprint where they have been.  If you’re out there reading this, lurking in the shadows, please do make yourself known.  If I’m going to do a give away or comp, it’d be nice to know where our work is potentially heading.

———————-

Apropos of that last para… on second thoughts, some of the people who swing by AC’s Scrapbook needn’t necessarily ‘de-lurk’ themselves.  I’ve just visited my stats page again and if you are one of those who have come here on the heels of a ‘no knickers’ word search, I suspect you will only find that one post of any interest. To be honest, I’m getting a little jaded by seeing that I am apparently the place to find information and to see ladies with apparently no knickers.

And on that note, I’m outta here…

The lie of the land

On this auspicious day of 09.09.09 (depending upon which culture you follow) I’m going to come clean and make an announcement.  The photo projects that I mentioned?  One was really by the by – to actually enter a photo competition this year, rather than thinking about it so much that I missed the closing date.  I have that one ‘in hand’ as we speak – prints ordered and now I just have to pick what I think is the best and send it off.

More important however is the other photo project and here is why I should come clean about this – it’s going to take a whole lot more time than I anticipated.  I’m currently in the process of setting up an art and design venture with my two daughters, both of whom are talented at art but both of whom are earning their daily crusts in a strictly financial environment (not much of a creative outlet there then).  As three people who love creating things I thought it about time that we put our heads together and started taking our love of art, craft and design more seriously.  Post stroke I’ve concentrated on photography so that’s why I referred to a ‘photo project’  but our venture will be so much more than that.

I’m going to make a point of checking in here regularly, mainly because if I didn’t I’d start to miss you, and partly because being here is simply a welcome rest for my poor frazzled brain. (Things described on the web as ‘so easy to set up that they don’t need instructions’ ?  Clearly when the wizz kids wrote the code they hadn’t come across someone as computer illiterate as me).

So that’s the lie of the land around here.  When we’re ready to go public I’ll be celebrating our launch with some kind of promotion or prize / giveaway.   ‘Oh no! Not another blog giveaway‘ I hear you cry.  Oh yes, you better believe it!  Trust me, you won’t want to miss it.

Oh, and I should say that my other WordPress site of Voix Douce is still hanging around in the wings, ever faithfully dispensing pearls of wisdom (although, there again, not as often as I’d like).  I’m a bit like the Scarlet Pimpernel.  If I’m not here …you may find me there!
